Description

During the Thesis Project Research semester, students are introduced to research methods in advance of the Spring semester Thesis Studio. The seminar provides a structured environment for students to articulate architectural research programs embedded in both the discipline and the contemporary problem situation in architecture. Students draw upon work from previous studios and identify new trajectories supporting individual inquiry. Thesis preparation at SCI-Arc is also understood to inscribe a particular topic relevant to the discipline and practice of architecture. Areas of concentration outlining relevant contemporary positions within the discipline are introduced at the start of the semester and students are asked to situate their work relative to one of the areas of concentration. Each area of concentration is accompanied by a set of architectural precedents and readings that act as supportive material and situate its relevance.
