Description
Beyond the generative applications for artificial intelligence, the ability to sense and analyze physical materials allows designers to rethink their relationship to building materials. The models allow designers to engage with sustainable materials who’s inconsistent properties have made them previously unsuitable for architectural scale construction. Operating at the intersection between indeterminate materials and rigorous formal precision, the seminar will explore innovative aesthetics at a tectonic assembly. Students will work with the Large Robot in conjunction with text to 3D AI models to develop new strategies for sustainable construction. Students will explore designs for long span structures using hybrid 3D printed and timber tectonics. Students will physically prototype these spans with the robot at furniture scale.
