Description

This course will look at the ability of multi-agent
systems to simultaneously negotiate desperate
constraints and intentions in both the physical and
digital. Students will develop software to drive the
robots which will have the ability to both read an
environment and make fabrication decisions in realtime
based on disciplinary intentions. The course will
initially work in Processing to integrate an analysis of
baroque geometry and the ability to read sensor inputs
into the behaviors of multi-agent systems. These
systems will then be integrated into the control
language of the robots to produce a real-time
autonomous sculpting system utilizing dynamic
additive manufacturing techniques. Each student group
will produce a furniture sized piece which will exhibit
emergent aesthetic and organizational effects through
the layering of material intentions, disciplinary
aesthetic agendas, and machine constraints.
