Description
This seminar recasts the role of the rustic in the context of contemporary architecture. The act of making rustic has a renewed relevance to the discipline in light of the current research into organic construction materials, reducing environmental impact and integrating these aspects into the building life cycle. Plasticity is rethought through the re-casting of renewable and biodegradable materials derived from vegetation, as an alternative to plastics. The seminar will focus on the use of biodegradable materials that are grown and cultivated to produce unorthodox tiles for construction. The challenge posed by the negligence of organic matter to the precision of digitally modeled form and the implications this has on literal and apparent solidity is the essence of this seminar.
