SCI-Arc Seminar
Title: THE REPRESENTATIONAL OBJECT
FALL 2016
Instructor: Peter Testa
The seminar will explore the limits of architecture?s representational possibilities linked to the emergence of new imaging technologies. Machine vision is about to fundamentally transform what we see and how we see but also the role of techniques and logistics in architecture. Pattern recognition, dynamic processing of images and video, multiple and simultaneous projections, collide with geometric mappings to produce other ways of seeing that generate the next thing. With robotics, machine vision is a retooled technology of design ? a different gesture towards the real that disturbs and disorders the standard approach to architecture. The two-part course is organized between a theory seminar examining the shifting hierarchy of image, object and matter in contemporary theory; and a short visualization project focusing on re-staging conventional techniques of architectural representation in SCI
