Description
The seminar looks at “AUTOMATION” across media from architecture and imaging to robotics. The course is structured around lectures, readings, and conversations with faculty and guests addressing the basic building blocks of contemporary design (AI, BIM, BLOCKCHAIN, CLOUD, DAM, DIGITAL DOUBLES). Student research projects will explore how this conceptual lexicon may be playfully constrained, deconstructed, and rearranged in support of a contingent, post-extraction and ecological material culture. Case studies are drawn from a range of industries (Architecture, Fashion, Industrial Design). Building on this discourse, in the second half of the semester will focus on “AUTOMAVISION” hands-on visualization experiments bridging digital and analog mediums in Robot House (with application to thesis.) Work will be largely carried during class time in small teams.
