Description
Drawing inspiration from elements of film, set design, fashion and architecture history, and bouncing it against contemporary techniques of making, students will be building a Mise-en-scène, with an architectural element being the main character of the plot.
To realize the scene, students will be upcycling textiles and low cost construction materials using digital fabrication techniques. Students are encouraged to explore the full range of machine aided production tools available at SCI-Arc such as laser cutting, sewing, robotic aided fabrication, augmented reality and 3d printing.
The course will offer a series of tutorials of prescribed production techniques involving robotic fabrication, as well a set structure which students can follow or build upon. Students can expect to learn basic 3D modeling with rhino, the use of digital cloth simulations, rhino-grasshopper to generate instructions for robotic and augmented reality assisted mark and mold making and laser-aided masking.
