Description

RE: Global Tools. This seminar will re-examine Global Tools 1973-1975, a collection of workshops and bulletins developed by various groups from Italian Radical Architecture, Arte Povera, and Conceptual Art. Four key themes – Theory, Body, Construction, and Communication – will be discussed in relation to the contemporary cultural moment, with a focus on environmental and social justice issues. The seminar aims to investigate the conceptual foundations and aesthetic possibilities of circularity at an actionable scale. Most work will take place in class – lectures, readings, discussions, and guest presentations, with the exception of one field trip in Los Angeles.

Each theme will be 2-3 sessions covering the prompt, research, and discussion. The first theme, Theory, begins with the requirement for a new philosophical grounding and its formal consequences.
