Description

The thin black line:
The recent passion for drawings composed of a fine skein of black lines reflects a renewed
attention to the geometric armature that undergirds every architectural assembly. Rather than
seeing this as a stylistic affectation (which, no doubt, it sometimes is) this interest should be
seen as an attempt to foreground the fundamental spatial mechanisms by which a project
enters the world. This attention is also a critique of projects that pose as radical but are, in fact,
only new insertions into a pre-existing spatial armature. If the thin black line is a return to the
traditional traces of architectural geometry, it is because, so often, that geometry persists,
unexamined.
