Description
This class is simply named ‘Chair’, because that is what we will do this semester, we will design and work
on a chair. Yet what is at stake here is not only this object but actually all that this domestic item
represents and the history that it carries. We will research the long list of references and key case studies
but we will also think of this topic anew. We will draw and visualize chairs, but we will also fabricate
chairs. We will create representations and details furniture drawings, that will become animated and
whimsical.
Course Description:
This class will begin by taking an Ikea chair and then hacking it. We will unpack it, and assemble it, but
will carefully disregard the instruction manual. Obviously we should be able to sit on it, but it will be
transformed. The seminar will constantly shift from fabrication to drawings, and we will also animate the
