Seminar Body Building explores ‘body’ from multiple lenses; genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, performance, biotechnology, beauty, agriculture, psychology, gaming, ritual, wellness culture and identity. Each theme forms the premise for physical material development, be it a machine or narrative based object. Working in groups (2_3) students will source unique materials (jelly, second hand: dolls house, remote control car, tennis ball machine) and experiment with fabrication methods to construct new aesthetics and story: primary working methods are analog and hackerish. This type of world-building uses making to develop the story/ protagonist. We bounce between physical and digital, with the intention of building a 3d form that gets unwrapped digitally, and built physically. Each week students are tasked to further develop their constructed analog pieces be that a new element entirely or a further evolution of what they have already built.
