DRAW THE LINE ? Visual Studies elective explores playful modes of drawing at the convergence of digitality and analogicity. Linked to post-digital visual culture, projects exploit the tension between abstraction and figuration, identification and deception, materiality and immateriality. During the first half of the semester, designers work hands-on in Robot House layering up techniques through a series of structured exercises. Line, multi-line, and outline drawings are produced using Montana graffiti markers attached to robots with custom end-arm tools. To create graphic effects, marker nibs/tips range from extra fine 0.7mm to extra wide 50mm multi-line with ink colors including fluorescent, white, and silver. In the second half of the semester, markers are swapped for Staedtler Fimo professional extruders, custom profiles, and Cernit polymer clay.
