Description
From Steampunk to Solarpunk, there exists a medley of punks that define science fictions and our contemporary visual culture. Their technology driven aesthetics transcend time and space, recording history while telling provocative stories about our past, present and future. In this Visual Studies seminar, we will dive into climate fictions (cli-fi), traverse across landscapes, epochs, natures, and parallel universes and survey the aesthetics and design language that define these worlds. Examining them against the backdrop of real world events, we will create our own climate remediation stories, imagine their environments, the people and their artifacts. Using Unreal Engine, we will get a glimpse into the process of world building and capture the visions of your stories in an animated view. Within this single moving image, we will explore what these futures can look like through developing the new visual aesthetic style of Climate Punk.
