Description

Critical Sustainability

This Course will explore solutions in affordable green housing that challenge the current sustainability status quo. The class will begin with an overview of sustainability innovation, within and without the field of architecture. Throughout the class, students will be encouraged to develop their own sustainability world view and will be tasked to manifest this through a series of small, focused research-design projects. Projects will address issues of prefabrication, solar integration, modularity, passive house design, user-controlled home automation, integration of water systems, remediation techniques, and overall material efficiencies. Students will be challenged to add value to the green design discourse by generating viable architectural solutions to the modern challenges of climate change, energy efficiency, and resource depletion. Through the term, students will interact with individuals of various disciplines, particularly with students and faculty
