Short Description: The seminar explores the idea of a phygital materiality – bridging the digital and analog – with a focus on textiles and composites. Research projects are structured to engage this new material culture emerging across a range of fields from fashion and sports to art, architecture, interiors, and objects. Conversations and presentations by guests will construct a discourse, with application to thesis and practice, focused on rethinking and redesigning the way we make (and upcycle) things within a “circular economy.” Lectures include a case-study of the groundbreaking textile architecture of Testa & Weiser from the CCA collection. Texts from Gottfried Semper to Sadie Plant; T’ai Smith to Reza Negarestani contribute to discussions on post-extraction materialism.
