    DS1010 | 1A Studio

    The first studio of the foundation sequence introduces students to different means of working abstractly and spatially thru a series of carefully calibrated exercises, focusing on formal ordering systems and geometric manipulations. Throughout the semester, students are offered a range of tools, skills and conceptual manners of working and developing ideas. The multiple exercises developed throughout the semester are to be interpreted as a catalogue of formal and spatial geometric investigations. Some of the assignments are sequential and others not, however the entire semester’s body of work will be thought of as one continuous project. The course will primarily focus on the fundamental and critical relationships between mass and interiority. Investigating various techniques of transformations, students follow a precise and controlled process of articulating mass and its interior.
