Description

The studio will situate itself first in downtown Los Angeles at SCI-Arc and will engage in
research, program scripting and experiments in making. In February or March, the studio
will relocate for approximately 21 days in central Mumbai, India and will work in collaboration
with Studio Mumbai to document diverse aspects of the city of Mumbai and to postion
projects toward further research. The studio will then return to SCI-Arc to play out the
remainder of the semester to synthesize the research, scripts, observations, material and
making into a series of projects.
The Project:
Using the city of Mumbai as a site, the studio will explore new forms of dwellings/human
habitation in a setting where:
- More than half the population of Mumbai lives in chawls, slums or on the street as
?pavement dwellers? and some others live in Armani residences and other designer name
branded apartments
- There is a ?liquid landscape? composed of what was originally fi ve islands that
now has
