Description
Los Angeles is a city of multiplicities, it is a place where the boundaries of culture, mediums, and neighborhoods shift daily, and a city where even place itself can’t be taken for granted. Los Angles’ homes, parks, warehouses, and studios often appear in media as if they were some other place, in some other time. Locations like the Iverson Movie Ranch were used to recreate the landscapes of Asia, Africa, and the South Seas, and others like King Gillette Ranch appear in reality shows like The Biggest Loser. In this seminar, we will be using LIDAR scanning, photogrammetry, and Artificial intelligence to create and examine the multiplicity of LA’s parks and public open spaces. Students will select from a group of sites to sample using scanning technology and combine these digital assets into a digital set. Using stable diffusion, these amalgamated sets will be retextured, shifting the reading of the geometry and preparing the assets for assembly into an unreal engine virtual garden.
