Description

What is a world, and how is one made?
This seminar traces a history of worldmaking from cosmological diagrams, perspective, and ideal cities to cinema, simulation, video games, and AI world models.
Across these radically different forms runs a shared ambition: to construct coherent worlds, establish what can exist within them, and determine how they can be seen, inhabited, and transformed.
Across this history, the means of making worlds grow more explicit, more technical, and more operational, until a representation stops depicting a world and begins to run one. The course follows this transformation into the present, where simulations, games, generative systems, and AI models produce environments with their own histories, behaviors, ecologies, and forms of intelligence.
Moving between architecture, philosophy, art, cinema, games, and computational culture, A History of Worldmaking asks what these histories reveal about architecture itself, and why the capacity to imagine and const
