Description

Design Cultures provides an immersion into design culture, including works of architecture, art, photography, film, media, performance, and fashion. Research material is drawn from physical and digital archives, publications, databases, and the environments around design. Students will collaborate on investigations, conversations, and presentations engaging contemporary and historical approaches to the production, collection, curation, dissemination of designed artifacts. The course focuses on three topics related to design culture, representation, collaboration, and navigating the field. The field trip is a site for learning that is embedded throughout the semester to expand the knowledge and awareness of the design world around us. The content introduces students to design cultures of the past and speculates on designing practices that include the design of buildings and the building of worlds.
