Description
Quilts
‘Rosie Lee Tompkins quilts were crafted objects that transcended quilting, with the power of painting. This made them canon-busting, and implicitly subversive.’ Roberta Smith, Radical Quilting, New York Times, June 2020
Quilts are textured collages, they are curated arrangement of fragments, textures, and all the stuff
that have been left behind. Quilting is a way of bringing all together, by creating compositions
and also narratives that give new life to all those found pieces. This class will create quilts that ‘weave’ various mediums, from digital stitching, to analog embroidery. We will script our fabrics and 3d scan our found textures and textiles. The final project will be the design of a unique pattern quilt that can transcend the analog/digital dialectic.
