Description
This class will focus on Weaving as a technique, that aims at extrapolating this artisanal process from the realm of textiles to the realm of architecture. We will begin by looking at the work of Anni Albers, and the process that goes from graphic notation to actual weaving on a loom. Students will create notation diagrams on graph paper, and then we will develop simple models that follow the drawings, by using paper shredders; we will cut strips of color paper to make weaving patterns. The next step will be to learn to use an actual loom, using the paper strip models as an underlying notation, students will use simple looms that will weave materials that are rich in colors and textures. This ancient artisanal process will be converted into a highly digital texture, one that will combine the analog and digital; from loom to 3D model, students will work with the software Houdini to create new variations of the early analog models. The final texture will be a 3d printed texture, as a sur
