Why was the Military Scholarship Essay Contest Created?

Everybody knows that education is valuable, but it can sometimes also be expensive. Paying for your education on top of everyday expenses can be difficult, and every little bit can help! Therefore, in an attempt to try to show gratitude to the sacrifices made by the United States of America’s military families, eLearners is offering a scholarship worth $1,000 to eligible military veterans and spouses in an effort to help offset the costs associated with enhancing your education and pursuing those next steps in your civilian career path.

Because financing one’s education can affect a whole family’s financial situation, all active military, veterans, as well as their spouses can apply for this scholarship. When awarded, the recipient can use the $1,000 tuition voucher for any cost associated with his or her school bursar’s office (some restrictions may apply based on the school). 

Military Scholarship Essay Contest Guidelines

In order to apply to the Military Scholarship Program, you will be required to submit a 250 word response to the following essay question about your service:

How has your military service better prepared you to enhance your education?

The deadline to submit your application is February 28, 2018. Notification will occur on or around May 31, 2018.

Military Scholarship Essay Contest Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be military active duty, honorably discharged, veteran, or a spouse from any branch of the military.

This contest is open only to those legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2018) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning (college, university, or trade school).

You can participate if you are:

  • 18 years or older.
  • Legal residents of the United States or Canada
  • Applicant must be a student who is currently enrolled in high school, college or university based in United States or Canada.
  • Having a Minimum GPA: 2.5

Scholarship Title: Moreira Team Mortgage Scholarship

How to Participate:

  • Choose a mortgage products and services topic relevant to “First Time Home Buyers, Getting Home Loan Ready, Financing Your Home, and Home Loan Ready Credit” and share your thoughts on the process through experience or research. You may use https://moreirateam.com/ as a research resource.
  • The essay must be original, well-though-out, well written, and ideally between 750+ words, although you may write a longer essay.
  • Read the rules and regulations, and make sure you comply with them or your submission could be void.
  • Please complete the form and attach essay below.
  • No fee to apply is required

Awarded:

  • April 15 for scholarships to be awarded for the following Fall semester
  • November 15 for the following Spring semester

Selection & Eligibility Criteria

Enrolled undergraduate or graduate students as well as high school seniors are encouraged to apply! Selection will be based on the free responses submitted by applicants. Financial need will not be considered.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident
  • Must be enrolled (or accepted) in an accredited college or university and planning on continuing the next year.
  • Graduating high school seniors who meet the above mentioned criteria may apply.
  • Must have a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours still to be completed.
  • Must consent to provide a digital photograph of self and quote for display on Study.com if notified as the award winner by the selection committee.
 

 Scholarship Award

The winner will be notified following the deadline, and the award will be sent directly to the recipient by check to the permanent mailing address noted in the application.

Academic award winners who accumulate more than $600.00 in prizes over a one-year period will be issued an IRS form 1099 (or the equivalent). This will require contest winners to provide Study.com with certain personal information prior to receipt of their winnings.
